About Us

Little Red Wagon Library is a volunteer-led nonprofit driven by a team committed to literacy and community service.

 

Melissa Thatcher’s focus on literacy began during volunteer shifts at a women’s and children’s shelter in Lawrence, where she read stories weekly to the resident children and handed out books which she had collected in book drives. Inspired by the impact that access to books can have on a child’s future, she created the Little Red Wagon Library to help connect more children and families with books of their own.

 

Her son, Gentry, a high school student and lifelong voracious reader, expanded that vision by developing school vacation and snow day kits for elementary and middle school students. He believes that every child should have access to as many books as they can read and is committed to helping young readers discover the joy, confidence, and opportunity that books provide. 

 

Fadia Chahine, a STEAM elementary school teacher in Lowell, is passionate about helping her students learn about the world of science through a variety of mixed mediums like art, engineering, technology, and hands-on learning. Fadia supports LRWL through managing our social media and maintaining our website.

 

Together, our team works to promote literacy, expand access to books, and hopefully, to inspire a lifelong love of reading.
